The Lotus Elise Sport and Elise Sport 220 mark a return the iconic ‘Sport’ naming designation, used previously on the famed Lotus Esprit and with it the Lotus Elise package becomes lighter, and even more performance-focused.

20 years ago, the Lotus Elise revolutionized the sports car world, setting the benchmark for handling, purity of the driving experience, lightweight and efficiency. Its pioneering and advanced bonded aluminium chassis was a market-leading technological innovation at the time and over the years has improved and evolved and remains core to the Elise’s exceptional performance today.

Both the new Elise Sport and Elise Sport 220 benefit from a significant weight reduction of 10 kg, a result of the continued central design philosophy of Lotus – ‘lighter, faster’ and the perpetual quest to reduce weight of all constituent parts and in some cases remove unnecessary parts altogether.

Weighing just 866 kg, the Elise Sport sets a benchmark in class – a sports car that both enthusiasts and newcomers to the brand will find it easy to fall in love with. Lightweight, efficient and completely pure in its driving experience, its handling and quickness in road holding remain the envy of all its rivals.

The Elise Sport 220 represents the perfect blend of power and dynamism in a more focused performance package. Weighing just 914 kg, with peak power of 217 hp and torque of 250 Nm, 0-96 km/h is achieved in just 4.2 seconds, and a top speed of 233 km/h is possible. However, it is once again in the area of vehicle dynamics that the Elise Sport 220 excels, offering an even purer driving experience when compared to the previous Elise S model, due largely to the further weight-saving, aided in part by a new lightweight sports battery.

Lightweight sports seats in leather, Alcantara or classic tartan trim as an option are a further sign of sports intentions. First introduced in 1976 in the Lotus Esprit S1, tartan interior references a time when making a statement was everything, a concept still central to Lotus’ design philosophy.

Sport mode is standard fitment in the Elise Sport and Sport 220, and sharpens the experience further by increasing throttle response, altering traction slip thresholds and removing understeer recognition, allowing enhanced control before intervention and offering an even closer connection between driver and machine. Bilstein sports dampers further contribute to scalpel sharp steering feeling and provide heightened feedback from the road.

With reduced weight comes increased efficiency and a reduction in fuel consumption, a power to weight ratio of 155 bhp/tonne for the Elise Sport and 237 bhp/tonne for the Sport 220 the result. Fuel consumption is an impressive 56.0 mpg (extra urban) the Elise Sport and 47.6 mpg (extra urban) for the Sport 220, further cementing the Elise’s tag as one of the most efficient sports cars in sector.

Alongside a weight reduction is a reduction in price. The Elise Sport model is now priced at £29,900 (RM141,564.18) / €39,900 (RM188,910.06) (MSRP) with the Elise Sport 220 priced at £36,500 (RM172,812.46) / €48,700 (RM230,574.44) (MSRP).

A range of classic Elise colors are available – Solid Red, Solid Yellow, Metallic Green, Metallic Blue, Metallic Silver, Metallic White, Metallic Grey, Metallic Orange, Metallic Black and Signature Grey, with rear diffuser in matt black. Lightweight silver or black cast wheels (16” front, 17” rear) are standard fitment and there is an optional upgrade to a forged wheel design that saves a further 5 kg from total unladen weight.

The Elise is Lotus’ most successful model in terms of numbers built, with a total of 32,000 manufactured and sold globally. In addition to the Elise, the Lotus small platform technology has been used to great success in the Lotus Exige, Lotus Europa and Lotus 2-Eleven models, all of which are, or have been manufactured by Lotus at its Headquarters in Hethel, Norfolk.

The Lotus Elise Sport and Elise Sport 220 go on sale in Europe in December 2015 and will be available to the rest of the world from January 2016.

Global News: The new Lotus Evora 400 lights up Malaysian Night 2015 in London

For the 6th year, London hosted the most vibrant and important event for Malaysian culture in theUK. On Friday the 18th September from noon to 10pm, Trafalgar Square became an open air market to celebrate Malaysian culture and its vibrant mix of music, food and entertainment.

As part of the DRB-HICOM Group, one of Malaysia’s leading conglomerates, Lotus renewed its participation in the event for the second year running, after a previous successful attendance in 2014.

Jean-Marc Gales, Chief Executive Officer of Group Lotus plc, commented: “We were pleased to attend Malaysian Night once again in 2015.  Events such as this are extremely important to Lotus, not only to reinforce our link with Malaysia but also to showcase our products within the heart of London as part of a rich celebration of global culture.”

Funded by the Malaysian External Trade Department (MATRADE), the event saw 53,000 people converge on Trafalgar Square in the centre of London. The Malaysian Minister for Trade and Industry, Honourable Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, and The High Commissioner of Malaysia to the UK, His Excellency Dato’ Ahmad Rasidi Hazizi, were also present to welcome the thousands of visitors and took time to visit the Lotus display featuring the new Lotus Evora 400.

The new model from Lotus further enhanced the event as part of an impressive display on the North Terrace, in front of the National Gallery, overlooking Trafalgar Square. Visitors were invited to sit in the hand built car, experience the distinctive ambience and admire the handmade details within the cabin. Supported by the London-based Lotus dealer, Hexagon, interested parties also had the opportunity to enquire about booking a test drive and gain further information about how they might own a Lotus sports car, an iconic product of Norfolk, England.

Global News: Lotus 3-Eleven Proves Credentials at Nürburgring

The new Lotus 3-Eleven marked its first public outing with a successful two-week test session during the industry pool test weeks at the renowned proving ground of the NürburgringNordschleife circuit, in which over 2,000kms were covered as part of a comprehensive test and development programme.

Heralding a new generation of Lotus high performance sports cars, the 3-Eleven features an all-new lightweight body, with an open cockpit design and a V6 supercharged engine developing 450 hp. The 3-Eleven re-affirms Lotus core values, offering the ultimate pure driving experience and providing the perfect demonstration of “faster and lighter” which comes from Lotus’ roots in competitive motorsport and underlines the company’s ability to deliver benchmark handling.

In what was its first turn of a wheel outside of Lotus’ Hethel HQ, the new 3-Eleven was piloted by three different drivers with individual areas of expertise and vehicle set-up with specific focus – aerodynamics, engine calibration, chassis tuning and suspension geometry.

Gavan Kershaw, Technical Manager for Lotus Motorsport and Lotus 3-Eleven Development Driver, commented, “It has been a hugely successful test for us in which we have thoroughly investigated areas of the car which are a specific focus for high performance driving. We have methodically worked through a test matrix concentrating on, aerodynamic balance, suspension settings, tyre and brake development, optimising engine calibration and throttle mapping to reach the required benchmark for performance.”

With clear running on the circuit an inhibiting factor over the course of the two week period – in which the track was not designated solely for the use of Lotus – the 3-Eleven lapped regularly on or below the target simulation time. By combining the quickest sector times achieved during the fastest 2 laps on the “Sport Auto” magazine lap configuration, a total lap time of 7 minutes 06 seconds was recorded by the vehicle’s data logging acquisition system.

Marc Basseng, Lotus 3-Eleven Driver, stated, “I know the Nürburgring Nordschleife very well and have driven many cars around the circuit. I can say that the 3-Eleven is the perfect car for a fast lap here. It is so sharp and so focussed; a true weapon! This was proven in the sector times set and I’m sure, with the track completely to itself, the car could push towards a 7min flat lap time.”

The new Lotus 3-Eleven will enter production in February 2016 with deliveries scheduled to commence in April 2016. Production will be limited to just 311 vehicles in total. The 3-Eleven will be sold in all markets as a race car and in Europe and Asia as a road car.

Pengeluar kereta sport, Lotus baru-baru ini mengadakan majlis ringkas bersama dengan pengurusan kanan, staf kejuruteraan dan produksi bagi meraikan produksi pertama Lotus 400 di Hethel.

Jean-Marc Gales, Ketua Pegawai Operasi Kumpulan Lotus berkata “Hari ini merupakan masa yang signifikan di dalam perancangan jangka panjang kami yang telah dirancang sejak lebih dari setahun lalu. Dengan pengeluaran Evora 400 pertama, kami telah mencapai suatu yang penting buat Lotus.”

Kesemua ini berjaya dicapai dengan keyakinan dan komitmen tenaga kerja kami yang mempunyai bakat dan kemahiran yang telah memasang setiap kereta Lotus dengan tangan mereka di Hethel”, tambah beliau.

Lotus Evora 400 mencatat 6 saat lebih pantas di trek ujian Hethel berbanding Evora S sebelum ini dengan masa 1 minit 32 saat. Menggabungkan prestasi tinggi dan pengendalian legenda Lotus, Evora 400 lebih pantas dan dinamik di mana hasil akhirnya menjadikan kereta ini lebih lincah dan jitu untuk dipandu.

Kelajuan maksimum ialah 300 km/j dan pecutan 0 – 100 km/j ialah 4.1 saat. Lebih dari 2/3 Lotus Evora 400 menggunakan peralatan dan perkakasan baharu termasuk enjin 3.5 liter V6 dengan supercaj yang menghasilkan 400 hp dan 410 Nm tork. Evora 400 juga mempunyai chasis aluminium dan interior baharu manakala badan yang menggunakan material komposit yang ringan mengubah bahagian depan dan belakang kereta.

Evora 400 yang dilancarkan di Geneva pada Mac lalu akan mula diedarkan di pasaran Eropah bermula Ogos ini. Pasaran China dan Amerika Utara pula akan menerima model ini pada awal 2016.

Unit pertama Evora 400 yang berwarna hitam metalik akan digunakan sebagai kereta promosi untuk Lotus.

Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad Kini Pengerusi Proton Holdings dan Group Lotus

Proton Holdings Berhad baru-baru ini telah melantik Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad sebagai pengerusinya bermula 16 Mei 2014. Tun Dr. Mahathir juga dilantik sebagai Pengerusi anak syarikat Proton iaitu Group Lotus plc.

Tun Dr. Mahathir telah menjadi Penasihat Proton sejak akhir 2003 selepas melepaskan jawatan sebagai Perdana Menteri Malaysia keempat. Visi beliau bukan sahaja untuk melihat impian kereta nasional menjadi nyata bahkan membangunkan ekonomi negara terutama sekali di dalam mendapatkan pengetahuan dan teknologi pembuatan untuk rakyat Malaysia.

Sebagai mantan Perdana Menteri, beliau memainkan peranan penting di dalam kemajuan industri automotif Malaysia di mana lahirnya Proton pada tahun 1983. Proton sejak itu telah menggalas tugas bagi mencambah ekosistem industri automotif tempatan di mana jurutera Proton sendiri kini dilengkapi dengan kemahiran untuk membina kereta tempatan dari sifar.

Lotus Exige S Roadster Kini Di Malaysia – RM452,030!

KUALA LUMPUR, 26 Mac 2014 – Lotus Cars Malaysia melancarkan Exige S Roadster untuk pasaran Malaysia di bilik pamerannya di Sungai Penchala, Kuala Lumpur.

Roadster baharu itu dilancarkan oleh Penasihat Proton, YABhg Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad yang turut disertai oleh pengurusan kanan DRB-HICOM, Proton dan Lotus.

Exige S Roadster adalah pelengkap kepada famili Exige yang terdiri daripada Exige S, Exige Cup dan Exige Cup R. Dikuasakan oleh enjin 3.5L V6 sama seperti model coupé, kereta itu 10kg lebih ringan daripada Exige S iaitu 1166kg dan mampu memecut dari sifar ke 100km/j dalam 3.9 saat. Output kuasanya ialah 345hp pada 7000 rpm (350 ps) dengan tork 295 lb ft pada 4500 rpm.

Sempena majlis pelancaran, Tun Dr Mahathir turut menyerahkan replika kunci kepada pemilik pertama Exige S Roadster di Malaysia iaitu Encik Simon Flint yang merupakan Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif Fitness First Asia. Encik Simon merupakan peminat Lotus dan model pertama yang dimiliki ialah Europa SE.

Lotus Elise S Cup R: Penampilan Pertama di Birmingham!

Keistimewaan kereta Lotus adalah pada konsep binaan yang ringkas dan membeli sebuah Lotus bukan setakat memiliki dan memandunya sahaja. Lotus mahu memberitahu bahawa produk mereka sesuai untuk pelbagai bajet, tahap serta pengalaman pemandu.  Buktinya ialah Lotus Driving Academy menyediakan pelbagai program seperti pengalaman pemanduan sehari, latihan dan kursus pemanduan dan menariknya terbuka untuk orang ramai, sama ada pemilik atau bukan pemilik kereta Lotus.

Mereka yang ingin lebih daripada itu ditawarkan perlumbaan hujung minggu atau boleh saja terbang ke serata dunia berlumba di dalam Lotus Cup. Untuk program yang lebih ekstrem, terdapat siri perlumbaan lasak (endurance) dan GT dengan kereta Lotus Evora GT4. Senang kata, terdapat pelbagai kereta Lotus untuk pelbagai program dan tahap pemanduan.

Bakal dianjurkan pada awal bulan ini ialah pameran Autosport 2014 yang berlangsung di Birmingham di mana pengeluar dan syarikat talaan mempamerkan kereta dan produk perlumbaan mereka. Lotus turut mengambil bahagian dengan mempamerkan beberapa model seperti Elise S Cup R, Evora GT4, Exige V6 Cup dan Exige V6 Cup R.

Lotus Elise S Cup R adalah versi modifikasi Elise S 1.8 liter standard seperti yang dijual di bilik pameran. Diserlahkan dengan grafik badan baharu dan kit badan aero, Elise S Cup R tampil garang untuk digunakan di litar lumba. Modifikasi yang dilakukan ialah menggantikan pemetaan standard dengan pemetaan perlumbaan pada engine control module (ECM) manakala kit badan aero janaan komputer (CFD) dipasang bagi memastikan fizikal Elise yang kecil itu mempunyai tenaga yang mampu untuk melonjak di litar lumba.

Di antara pakej aerodinamik Elise S Cup R ialah splitter baharu, sirip angin, diffuser dan spoiler belakang. Manipulasi aliran udara menghasilkan lebih mendapan (downforce) kereta dan gabungan set suspensi boleh laras berjaya mengurangkan masa pusingan litar sebanyak 4 saat dengan jarak pusingan sejauh 3.5km berbanding Elise S standard.

Rupert Manwaring, Ketua Lotus Motorsport berkata, “Membangunkan Elise S Cup R adalah tindakan susulan selepas kejayaan Exige V6 Cup R. Dengan munculnya banyak pasaran baharu yang berminat dengan sukan permotoran, Elise S Cup R adalah kereta entry-level yang sesuai untuk dijadikan kereta lumba. Sama ada untuk pelumba profesional atau pun pemandu biasa yang ingin menajamkan skil di dalam trek lumba atau sekadar untuk berseronok, kejituan pengendalian dan praktikalitinya serta kos penggunaan yang rendah menjadikan Lotus Elise S Cup R sebagai pilihan yang tepat untuk jentera perlumbaan.
