The Lotus Elise Sport and Elise Sport 220 mark a return the iconic ‘Sport’ naming designation, used previously on the famed Lotus Esprit and with it the Lotus Elise package becomes lighter, and even more performance-focused.

20 years ago, the Lotus Elise revolutionized the sports car world, setting the benchmark for handling, purity of the driving experience, lightweight and efficiency. Its pioneering and advanced bonded aluminium chassis was a market-leading technological innovation at the time and over the years has improved and evolved and remains core to the Elise’s exceptional performance today.

Both the new Elise Sport and Elise Sport 220 benefit from a significant weight reduction of 10 kg, a result of the continued central design philosophy of Lotus – ‘lighter, faster’ and the perpetual quest to reduce weight of all constituent parts and in some cases remove unnecessary parts altogether.

Weighing just 866 kg, the Elise Sport sets a benchmark in class – a sports car that both enthusiasts and newcomers to the brand will find it easy to fall in love with. Lightweight, efficient and completely pure in its driving experience, its handling and quickness in road holding remain the envy of all its rivals.

The Elise Sport 220 represents the perfect blend of power and dynamism in a more focused performance package. Weighing just 914 kg, with peak power of 217 hp and torque of 250 Nm, 0-96 km/h is achieved in just 4.2 seconds, and a top speed of 233 km/h is possible. However, it is once again in the area of vehicle dynamics that the Elise Sport 220 excels, offering an even purer driving experience when compared to the previous Elise S model, due largely to the further weight-saving, aided in part by a new lightweight sports battery.

Lightweight sports seats in leather, Alcantara or classic tartan trim as an option are a further sign of sports intentions. First introduced in 1976 in the Lotus Esprit S1, tartan interior references a time when making a statement was everything, a concept still central to Lotus’ design philosophy.

Sport mode is standard fitment in the Elise Sport and Sport 220, and sharpens the experience further by increasing throttle response, altering traction slip thresholds and removing understeer recognition, allowing enhanced control before intervention and offering an even closer connection between driver and machine. Bilstein sports dampers further contribute to scalpel sharp steering feeling and provide heightened feedback from the road.

With reduced weight comes increased efficiency and a reduction in fuel consumption, a power to weight ratio of 155 bhp/tonne for the Elise Sport and 237 bhp/tonne for the Sport 220 the result. Fuel consumption is an impressive 56.0 mpg (extra urban) the Elise Sport and 47.6 mpg (extra urban) for the Sport 220, further cementing the Elise’s tag as one of the most efficient sports cars in sector.

Alongside a weight reduction is a reduction in price. The Elise Sport model is now priced at £29,900 (RM141,564.18) / €39,900 (RM188,910.06) (MSRP) with the Elise Sport 220 priced at £36,500 (RM172,812.46) / €48,700 (RM230,574.44) (MSRP).

A range of classic Elise colors are available – Solid Red, Solid Yellow, Metallic Green, Metallic Blue, Metallic Silver, Metallic White, Metallic Grey, Metallic Orange, Metallic Black and Signature Grey, with rear diffuser in matt black. Lightweight silver or black cast wheels (16” front, 17” rear) are standard fitment and there is an optional upgrade to a forged wheel design that saves a further 5 kg from total unladen weight.

The Elise is Lotus’ most successful model in terms of numbers built, with a total of 32,000 manufactured and sold globally. In addition to the Elise, the Lotus small platform technology has been used to great success in the Lotus Exige, Lotus Europa and Lotus 2-Eleven models, all of which are, or have been manufactured by Lotus at its Headquarters in Hethel, Norfolk.

The Lotus Elise Sport and Elise Sport 220 go on sale in Europe in December 2015 and will be available to the rest of the world from January 2016.

Global News: Mazda CX-3 Production Starts in Thailand

Mazda Motor Corporation on Monday announced that it held a ceremony to celebrate the start of production of the all-new Mazda CX-3 at Auto Alliance (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (AAT), the company’s production facility in Thailand. Approximately 300 people attended the ceremony, including Mazda’s Managing Executive Officers Kiyotaka Shobuda and Kazuhisa Fujikawa as well as executives and employees of AAT.

Production of the all-new Mazda CX-3 began at the Hiroshima Plant in Japan in December last year. AAT is the second production location and the first overseas facility to start producing the model.

“AAT is an extremely important hub that consolidates our system for supplying the CX-3 promptly and consistently to the growing compact SUV market,” commented Kiyotaka Shobuda. “By providing customer with Thai-produced vehicles that are as high-quality as those we make in Japan, we will work towards further raising our brand image.”

The all-new CX-3 is the fifth model in Mazda’s line-up of new-generation vehicles featuring the full range of SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and KODO-Soul of Motion design. As a new kind of compact crossover SUV, it offers all the essentials people look for in a car; a quality, stylish design; packaging developed for ease-of-use; and responsive driving performance. Mazda launched the CX-3 in Japan in February this year as a new core model and has since begun sales in other key markets, including North America, Europe and Australia.

EV-Cub Concept: A personal commuter model for short-distance commuting that follows the concept of an “easy-to-handle and economical motorcycle” that Honda has been pursuing since the creation of the first-generation Super Cub. Placing the battery, a heavy component, at a low position in the middle of the body, allows easy mounting and dismounting. Moreover, ease-of-handling was pursued through concentration of  mass and lowering of the centre of gravity. In consideration of ease-of-use in a broader range of environments, the battery itself was made detachable, and rechargeable using a standard home wall socket.

The new BMW M2 is the latest compact sports coupe in a long line of legendary road and racing BMWs, such as the 2002 Turbo, E30 M3 and 1M Coupé.  Cast in a similar mould, it brings the concept right up to date with the latest in motor sport derived technology. The result is a powerful performer that delivers genuine driver satisfaction on the road, and extreme capability on the racing circuit.

Powered by a new, specifically developed, 3.0-litre straight-six engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, the latest product from BMW M GmbH produces a formidable 370hp, enabling an electronically-limited top speed of 249km/h. When equipped with the optional seven-speed M DCT gearbox, the M2 can sprint from rest to 99km/h in just 4.3 seconds.

This superb level of performance is expressed visually via unique enhancements to the base 2 Series Coupé body, majoring on style but also reflecting the aerodynamic, cooling and chassis requirements of the new car. The BMW M engineers have worked tirelessly to reduce weight wherever possible, improve rigidity and hone the M2’s responses via sophisticated chassis technology and electronics to deliver a truly rewarding drive.

Engine: A true BMW M six-cylinder powerplant
The six-cylinder engine of the new BMW M2 is entirely in keeping with the finest BMW M tradition. It offers unbeatable driving fun on a racing circuit, yet remains completely civilised in everyday use. With an appetite for revs not normally associated with a turbocharged engine, it features an exceptionally linear power delivery and strong torque across a broad rev range, all delivered with a distinctive engine sound. Rapid responses and excellent efficiency are amongst the benefits of BMW’s innovative M TwinPower Turbo technology.

The new 3.0-litre engine possesses an output of 370hp at 6,500rpm and will rev to 7,000rpm, while peak torque of 465Nm is on tap between 1,400 and 5,560rpm. An overboost function raises this figure by 35Nm to 500 Nm between 1,450 and 4,750rpm.

With M DCT fitted and Launch Control activated, the new BMW M2 completes the sprint from rest to 99km/h in just 4.3 seconds (4.5 sec with the six-speed manual gearbox). The top speed is electronically limited to 249mph.

This new, lightweight, thermodynamically optimised, all-aluminium unit is very rigid due to its closed-deck design. BMW’s advanced M TwinPower Turbo technology on the M2 comprises of a TwinScroll turbocharger, High Precision Injection, variable camshaft timing (Double-VANOS) and VALVETRONIC variable valve control. The M2’s turbocharger has been integrated into the exhaust manifold, reducing the warm-up phase after a cold start and thereby helping to cut internal friction and significantly reduce fuel consumption and CO2emissions. Components including the pistons were sourced from the BMW M3/M4 engine, as are the crankshaft main bearing shells. In order to ensure oil reaches all engine components at all times under the kind of extreme conditions encountered on a race track, the engine benefits from a modified lubrication system; an additional oil cooler for the transmission oil (on M DCT cars) and a further water cooler for the engine keep temperatures stable.

With its four tailpipes, the M2 is instantly recognisable as a BMW M model and the exhaust’s minimal exhaust back-pressure ensures efficient performance. Added to which, the electrically controlled flap delivers the distinctive BMW M engine soundtrack across the entire rev range without pushing volume levels to their stipulated limits.

Gearbox: Manual gearbox with automatic throttle blipping and MDCT

The new BMW M2 comes as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox, featuring dry-sump lubrication and an engagement speed control function that blips the throttle on downshifts and lowers the engine’s revs on upshifts.

An option is the latest generation of the seven-speed M DCT. With this system the driver can change gear either in automated mode or manually using the M gearshift lever on the centre console or shift paddles on the M leather steering wheel. The Drivelogic function tuned to the M DCT offers a choice of six driving programs (three in automatic mode and three in manual mode). The COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+ settings can be activated using the Driving Experience Control switch. The integrated Launch Control function ensures the best possible acceleration off the line in all conditions.

M DCT with Drivelogic offers further specific M functions. For example, Stability Clutch Control (SCC) disengages the clutches when necessary to prevent oversteer and so stabilise the vehicle. The “creep on demand” function allows the driver to prompt the creep effect familiar from conventional automatic transmissions by nudging the accelerator while at a standstill – to manoeuvre out of tight parking spaces, for example. Another integrated feature is the Smokey Burnout function, which allows the driver to indulge in a degree of wheelspin while the car is moving at low speeds.

Global News: The New Kawasaki ZX-10R

Giving the latest in the Ninja line its public debut on 8 October in Barcelona, Spain, Kawasaki chose the home town of the Kawasaki Racing Team for good reason. Developed in close cooperation between KRT and Kawasaki factory in Japan, the ZX-10R for the coming year has benefited from the input of two Kawasaki Superbike champions, Jonathan Rea and Tom Sykes.

Using the campaign tag line “Get Closer”, the winners of the 2015 World Superbike Championship and Manufacturers title are confident the new machine is the closest it is possible for a road going Ninja to be to the machines that have dominated numerous WSBK races and Superpoles in recent years.

Featuring a whole host of new innovations in terms of chassis, engine and electronic upgrades, the potential of the new machine as a track day weapon and road riders dream is considerable.

Instant visual clues are provided by a cowling with more volume than previous, a wider tail section and other subtle changes. More obvious is the adoption of Brembo M50 monobloc brake calipers, a Brembo idle stroke checked radial pump master cylinder and WSBK style Showa front forks.

Created across a prolonged period of testing and development in an exclusive arrangement with KRT, the balance free design of the fork and rear shock for a road bike application is being vaunted by Kawasaki as a major step forward for a customer machine that will be available in showrooms at the start of 2016.

A machine which gives up the secrets under its skin willingly, the new Ninja is the first Kawasaki to feature an Inertial Measurement Unit as part of its electronic rider aid package featuring five axis measurements in the Bosch IMU and a sixth measurement using a unique Kawasaki programme stored in the ECU. Combining these the machine is well equipped with advanced traction control, launch control, engine power selection and high precision brake management, the later allowing riders to hit their desired apex on any given corner – even when braking.

Benefitting from a crankshaft with 20% less inertia than the current model plus numerous other weight savings and upgrades, the 2016 litre class machine exhibits noticeably stronger power in the mid-range without any effect on its 200ps peak power; as well as being Euro4 compliant before many of its rivals.

Global News: Ferrari Reveals the F12tdf, 799 Limited Units

Ferrari reveals the F12tdf which pays homage to the Tour de France, the legendary endurance road race that Ferrari dominated in the 1950s and ‘60s, particularly with the 1956 250 GT Berlinetta which won four consecutive editions. It was a race that rewarded cars that combined maximum performance with the driveability and ease of use that enabled the competitors to race for hundreds of kilometres a day over fast, tortuous roads and on circuits. The F12tdf is the ultimate expression of the concept of an extreme road car that is equally at home on the track, and just 799 will be built.

The F12tdf is a concentration of technical innovations which involve all those areas central to Ferrari’s DNA: engine, aerodynamics and vehicle dynamics. As a result, in terms of acceleration, roadholding and agility, the new berlinetta is second to none.

The F12tdf’s performance is assured by the 780 cv, naturally-aspirated V12 derived directly from the F12berlinetta’s multi-award-winning engine. The car’s exhilarating dynamic behaviour, specifically its lateral acceleration in corners, is due to an 8% increase in the ratio of the front tyres compared to the rear ones. The car’s natural tendency to oversteer as a result of the change in tyre sizes is compensated for by the innovative rear-wheel steering system – known as the Virtual Short Wheelbase, which is integrated with the other vehicle dynamic control systems – that guarantees the steering wheel response times and turn-in of a competition car while increasing stability at high speed. Cornering speeds are also higher thanks to the significant increase in downforce – +87% – which has reached unprecedented levels for a front-engined V12 berlinetta.

A radical redesign of the bodywork, interior, engine, transmission and running gear, along with the abundant use of carbon-fibre inside and out, has slashed 110 kg off the car’s overall weight.

All of these factors combine to produce record performance figures: 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and 0-200 km/h in 7.9 seconds in addition to a substantial boost in lateral acceleration. The F12tdf laps Fiorano in just 1’21”.

Outstanding stopping distances are guaranteed by the adoption of the new Extreme Design one-piece brake callipers already seen on the LaFerrari. This new-generation system means the car can brake from 100-0 km/h in just 30.5 m and from 200-0 in 121 m.

The engine is the F12berlinetta’s 6262cc 65° V12 on which Ferrari engineers worked to boost maximum power output from 740 cv to 780 cv at 8,500 rpm, yielding a specific power output of 125 cv/l. The engine’s sporty response is assured by a maximum torque figure of 705 Nm (up from 690 Nm) at 6,750 rpm with 80% already available at 2,500 rpm, resulting in unparalleled, progressive pick-up all the way to the red-line at 8,900 rpm.

Numerous modifications have been developed for this engine, starting with the use of race-inspired mechanical tappets and variable-geometry intake trumpets used on Formula 1 cars which help boost volumetric efficiency at high revs.

The F12tdf is equipped with a specific version of the F1 DCT with 6% shorter gear ratios that delivers 30% faster upshifts and 40% faster downshifts.

Proton telah banyak menguji kereta buatannya di serata dunia seperti di Australia dan sebelum itu di Eropah. Proton juga turut mendapatkan khidmat dari agensi dan makmal antarabangsa bagi memastikan ujian dan keputusan yang dilakukan mempunyai kredibiliti.

Berdasarkan pengalaman berurusan dengan agensi antarabangsa, prosedur normal ialah agensi tersebut akan berhubung terus dan memaklumkan syarikat jika ada sebarang isu sebelum kenyataan awam dibuat mengenai kereta yang diuji.

Toyota Avanza Dengan Enjin Dual VVT-i Dilancarkan – Harga Bermula Dari RM69,000

UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd selaku pengedar dan pemasang kenderaan Toyota di Malaysia kini melancarkan Toyota Avanza dengan pelbagai perubahan signifikan termasuk dua enjin baharu. Seperti sebelum ini, terdapat empat varian yang ditawarkan iaitu Avanza 1.5S Automatic, Avanza 1.5G Automatic, Avanza 1.5E Automatic dan Avanza 1.3E Manual.

Enjin yang dipasangkan pada M ini ialah dari siri NR baharu dengan teknologi Dual VVT-i. Enjin itu lebih efisyen, berkuasa dengan emisi yang lebih bersih. Bunyi dan gegaran juga lebih rendah susulan daripada rekaan dan penggunaan penebat bunyi.

Teknologi VVT-i digunakan secara meluas pada kebanyakan kenderaan Toyota sejak 15 tahun lalu manakala teknologi Dual VVT-i hanya digunakan pada model yang lebih mahal dan sporty yang kini turut digunakan pada Toyota Avanza. Enjin baharu tersebut ditawarkan pada varian 1.3 dan 1.5 Avanza.

Gayaan baharu yang digunakan adalah kesinambungan model Toyota terkini seperti Vios dan Corrola Altis. Bahagian depan Avanza kini lebih menyerlah dengan gayaan dinamik. Varian S mempunyai identiti sporty manakala Varian G dan E pula digayakan supaya nampak mewah dan berkelas tinggi.
